Year 3

 Week beginning 29th September 2025

We have had a great week of learning. We have been finding out about the Anglo-Saxons. The children already remember lots of facts about them and we have seen some amazing homework already too!

In English, we have been focusing on descriptive writing. We have been impressed with some fantastic adjectives and noun phrases.

We have been learning about light in Science, and the children enjoyed experimenting to find good reflective materials.

Remember that our Harvest festival service is on Thursday. If you would like to donate food, the following items have been requested: tinned carrots/sweetcorn/meat/fish, biscuits, savoury snacks, UHT milk, tea and chocolate.

Important dates and messages:

Our PE day this year is Wednesday.

Thursday 2nd October 11am KS2 Harvest Festival in church.

Worship theme of the week:

This week's learning:

English: We will continue to build on our creative writing skills using adjectives and interesting verbs. We will learn about creating suspense in writing and will start to plan a narrative.

Maths: We will be introducing hundreds and beginning to partition numbers with hundreds, tens and ones.

History: We will be learning more about what life was like in an Anglo-Saxon village.

Science: We will learn about how light can be reflected.

RE: We will be exploring the creation story from the Bible.

Our new class book:

Year 6

Homework:

Please note that this term's project homework is at the bottom of the page.

The children will receive their homework sheets this week. Please choose at least two tasks to complete over the course of our project. The children are welcome to complete more if they wish.

We look forward to seeing what they produce in our homework museum.

We also encourage children to practice our weekly spellings at home, as well as the Y3/4 common exception words.

MyMaths homework has been set for each child, and we will send their login details to their record by the end of the week.

Reading:

We would love to see Year 3 using their extra time at home to read some brilliant books. If children read three times at home, they get a raffle ticket. Please, therefore, keep a quick record in reading logs – your children can write the title in to help! We would also like to encourage children to bring their reading records to school every day.

Maths

TTRS should be the main way the children use to practice their timetables. We will send out log ins in the next week. Children should still be completing 3 soundchecks and two garage bands a week.

However, if they would like a change or to focus on particular tables, they can use "Hit the button".
