Week Beginning 6th May 2024

Another busy week of learning! The children have been learning all about plants and have brought home their sunflower plants that they have been growing in school.

Next week, the children will practice test technique in readiness for our SATS, which will be in the last week of term. The children will revisit all four calculations.

English

Next week, the children will be finishing their unit on narrative. They will plan their own stories in the first person and write these independently.

Phonics

Next week, the children will read and spell using the suffix ment.

Parent Information Sheet

Worship theme of the week:

Next week, our worship theme will be forgiveness.

Please note that our curriculum overview for this term is at the bottom of the page.

Whole Class Read

We will be practising our comprehension using a range of previous test questions on several different texts.

Reading Vipers

Key Information:

Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.

We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.

Year 2 Common Exception Words

Homework

Your child will be bringing home a home learning choice sheet  next week which we ask that you complete over the duration of the half term.  We will also be sending home a list of the common exception words that Year 2 children are expected to learn. We will not be testing the children on these spellings but we actively encourage children to use these words in their writing throughout the year.

My Maths

This week the mymaths learning tasks are on fractions, which the children have learnt recently.

Have a brilliant weekend!
