Year 2
Week Beginning 31st March 2025
This week the children have been writing newspaper articles for the Great Fire of London. We have been so impressed with the language they have been using. We have reached the end of the term nearly and next week will bring lots of Easter activities and fun!
Maths
Next week, the children will be looking at fractions for the first time this year. They will be understanding how to represent fractions as a quantity and as a shape.
English
The children will finish this project by writing fire senses poems. They will use their senses to create a poem about the Fire of London.
Phonics
Next week, the children will be revisiting all the sounds and spelling patterns that have been learned over the year so far.
Whole Class Reading
This term, the children will be move onto books based around the Great Fire of London. They will read 'Vlad and the Great Fire of London'.
Key Information:
Please aim to read with your child at home three times per week, as they will earn a reading raffle ticket for every three reads! In school, an adult will read with your child once per week and change their Rhino Reader book once each week too. In addition, children have ownership over their 'sharing book', which they can change themselves and pick which book they'd like to read.
We are trying to boost vocabulary within our writing in Year 2, so if you come across any powerful vocabulary whilst reading with your child, please ask them to note it in their reading record.
