Science Week Fun!
Year 3 have had a very busy week! This week at school we celebrated Science Week, so the children took part in a variety of different activities. We started the week focusing on Engineering in which the children all have created their own products which will be entered into the Primary Engineer Competition. The children came up with so many wonderful creations, including some very thoughtful ones too. Ideas include: robots to check children have washed their hands once they've been to the toilet, a robot which helps blind people to get to their intended destination, a pen which, when spoken to, writes down what the person is saying, and many more! What creative minds we have in Year 3!
Besides the incredible inventions the children designed, they have also planned and tested two science experiments this week. Our first experiment was called 'The Exploding Sandwich Bag' which really did make a very loud pop when bursting! The reaction of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in a zip-locked sandwich bag, caused the bag to fill up with so much carbon dioxide that it eventually burst!
We ended the week with our final experiment of 'DIY Lava Lamps'. To create our own lava lamps, we used water and oil which separated in a jar. A few drops of food colouring were then added, to act as the lava and when we added an Alka-Seltzer tablet, the magic began!
Not only do we have some amazing engineers in Year 3, we also have some very talented scientists!
